#10, EXTRANALITIES – EXTRANALITIES BY THE SEA

“Oh I do like to be beside the seaside, oh I do like to be beside the sea” sing the excitable jewellers of Extranalities as they bounce about in their charabanc destined for Cagnes-sur-Mer. “Be quiet in the back!” hollers captain Herman, as he navigates the big car along the uneven French country roads. Peter, who has just woken up, exclaims “I just saw a junk shop, can we stop and have a look?” “NO!” everyone choruses back, “There’s barely enough room in the charabanc for all the exhibition jewellery, never mind for the inevitable ‘treasure’ that would appear after a Peter browse” quips Tim. Christoph then starts mumbling about something, or other, but everyone pretends not to understand a word he is saying.

After a few more bumpy kilometres Felieke suddenly states “I would rather spend time in a forest than on a beach! The beach is so boring!”. But as no one responds Sara asks whether the beach at Cagnes-sur-Mer is sandy or pebbly. She says she hopes it is pebbly, as she has brought an extra bag with her. Catarina, sipping from a freshly opened bottle of wine then cheekily inquires “Since there is no roof, can I smoke?”. “Pass the bloody bottle Catarina” adds a slightly sloshed Sofia, as she puts the finishing touches to yet another piece of jewellery for the show.

Everyone is suddenly awoken when Denise screams “I can see the sea!”, so Captain Herman honks his hooter a few times as the Extranalities charabanc slowly bumbles into the warm sea air of Cagnes-sur-Mer.
