Extranalities is a group of jewellery artists who challenge each other with unusual assignments. The members force each other to stretch the boundaries of their artistic process and practice. The inspiration for this exhibition started already in the mid-1990s when Peter Vermandere strolled past the famous bookstalls alongside the Seine. There, he found a black-and-white photograph of a man and a child, draped with paper flower garlands. Thus began the search for photographs in which jewellery played a starring role. Peter even bought an entire archive of American newspaper photos! These old jewellery photos and their captions are given a new life as inspiration for actual jewellery: Pictureware.
