An approach to a unique artist
With her poetic documentary film about the Australian artist Helen Britton, who was recently named a Living Treasure of Australian Craft, director Elena Alvarez Lutz takes us through wondrous worlds. To rocky Pacific coasts, through the Australian outback, to the ruins of heavy industry and to the last masters of the German craft tradition: the stone cutters of Idar Oberstein and the glassblowers in Lauscha, Thuringia. Like an alchemist, Helen Britton distils lost knowledge from her encounters and transforms the found material into fascinating works of art in her Munich workshop. Alvarez Lutz accompanies this process in “Hunter from Elsewhere” and enriches it with sounds and images until her film itself becomes a work of wonder.
